Steve's Music Archives
Find here old recordings of Steve's from the '80s, '90, and '00s. Many different genres are shown here from classical to rock to electronica. These have little to do with the One Moment project but were, instead, my own steps leading up to this One Moment. I really wanted to share them... such as they are.
All production, writing and performance is mine, unless otherwise noted.
Please help yourself to the downloads and, if you like 'em, share 'em. Peace - -=sf=-

It's All Just...
Genre: Electronic Date: 2002
This was my first experiment working with Acid loops. Very fun. I like the groove about 2/3 of the way in.

MediSpheres
Genre: New Age Date: 1992-ish
This song was engineered for purposes of inducing a meditative state. Works best with headphones. Uses two low-frequency sine waves slightly detuned, with the detuning decreased over time to slow down the sub-sonic 'beat' frequency. Pretty cool.

Hazel
Genre: Solo Acoustic Guitar Date: 1993
Hazel Emma Stephens Frost was my Grandmother. She was one of my favorite people ever on the planet. I wrote this the day after she died and played it at her service.
Recorded on the Breedlove in DADGAD, capo in 2nd.

Peer Gynt Suite: Asse's Death
Genre: Classical Date: 1993-ish
I have almost no formal musical education, so sought to reverse-engineer this hauntingly beautiful piece - by ear. I remember as a child, my Dad playing this on the 'Hi-Fi' (before stereo) and being just overtaken by the emotion. I think I was intrigued by the memory of my Dad saying "A sythesizer will never be as beautiful as 'real music'." I think in a way he was right... but it's still very beautiful.

Yestertwilight
Genre: Electronic Date: 1992-ish
Heavy-handed elertonica, but I loved the grandiosity of this theme. This was all done on the Kurzweil K2000, as were some of the other synth-only tunes. A brilliant instrument.

Careful
Genre: Pop Date: 1985-ish
This is a song that One Moment re-made... with actual guitars and stuff. This version is all keyboards, all Steve and slathered in digital delay and reverb - an '80s must-have. This was the first time I ever stacked my own 4-part harmonies. Played it back and went: That's kinda cool.

Space Oddity
Genre: Rock Written by: David Bowie Date: 1993-ish
I really wanted to see if I could reverese-engineer this entire production and perform it all myself: Bass, drums, strings, flute, sax... I rather fell down vocally both on performance and mix. Please pardon that. Truth is, I never did finish this recording... the ending rather falls apart and the experiment was abandoned. Hats off to the original producer: Gus Dudgeon. Brilliant.

Steve Experiment #3
Genre: Electronic/Acid Date: 2002
This never really had a name. But it had a pretty cool groove. And very stock loops.

Sweet Dreams
Genre: Rock Date: 1981
Drums: Dave Bamford; Hammond B-3: Gavin Pursinger; Engineer: Jack Barr - RIP; Hand claps: Sally, Tammi and ?; Executive Producer: Charles H. Frost (thanks, Dad!)
This was my first 'solo' project. So cute: still a minor and thought I could rock. The recording was recorded to be submitted to the KGON album. Didn't make the cut, 'cause it wasn't that good. Remind me never to flange the bass guitar again.

Another Cigarette
Genre: Electronic Date: 1992-ish
Inspired by lyrics written by Irene Frost - or was it the other way around?. The lyrics are really cool, but were never re-married to this soundscape. I'd like to see them resurrected. The music took my favorite Italian-style composer angst and over-produced the crap out of it on the K2000 keyboard.

Chuck Is Asleep
Genre: Electronic/Experimental Date: 1986-ish
Chuck Baliconis (Avalon) and I had just scored a lot of new production gear, due to a financial backer (Thanks always, Ed and Carolyn!) Chuck was sleeping. I was experimenting. This was a lot of Roland S-50 keyboard and some old Korg digital delay.

Changeling
Genre: Alternative Rock Date: 1995-ish
These were the basic tracks for a song that never got finished. The lyrics were written but never tracked. My first time playing mandolin to tape. Pleasant, but rather boring.
