Meet The Band

Steve Frost has been actively involved with music since grade school, primarily as a guitarist and vocalist.  Throughout his career he has played with such bands as Freestyle (his first 'paid gig' ever), Sleight of Hand, Vixen, Avalon, Stinger, and Teasing Zen.  His first Les Paul guitar accompanied Steve in High School in 1976, affirming his path since childhood as a performing artist.  His roots are firmly planted in acoustic ground, while growing up listening to artists like James Taylor, John Prine, Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens and those roots are clearly reflected in One Moment's groundedness.  it was only a matter of time before his attention turned towards the pop airplay rock of the '70s a '80s: Rolling Stones, Rush, Queen, Todd Rundgren and the Talking Heads.  Still later, major influences included the eclecticisms of King's X, Porcupine Tree and Collective Soul - all and none of which quite describe the music he creates with One Moment into the next millennium.  Hear some of his previous projects on the Music Archives page

Steve loves both stage and the studio alike, while enjoying his personal challenge of balancing between his acoustic folk side and his twisted head-banging side.  Where a reluctance to settle makes him difficult to categorize, it also means that OM's music will have something sonic for every taste.

Jay Haygood was born to play guitar.  Just watch him and you know this to be true.  Cutting his chops in the club scene in Austin, Texas, Jay learned to command audiences in the same rooms as Eric Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughn, and humbly took great strides to keep up with them and their associates.  After moving to Portland, Oregon, Jay took to a line of tribute bands showing crowds his impeccable ability to emulate - both visually and note-for-note the likes of Ace Frehley of Kiss, Glen Tipton of Judas Priest, Randy Rhoads of Ozzy and Eddie Van Halen of, well... you know.

In recent years, Jay has - fortunately for us - chosen to spend less time nicking the chops of the celebrated masters and turned towards creating his own textures and lead melodies for the songs of One Moment.

Irene Frost has been dabbling in musical instruments ever since early childhood.  Music was in her family's roots: her brothers, uncles and mother all made music as a rootsy lifestyle.  Irene therefore did as many of us do and gravitated toward the defiant path of Rock and Roll.  Deeply stirred by the music that surrounded her it was only a matter of time before she was taking guitar lessons.  And then piano lessons.  Then vocal lessons.  Eventually taking that twisted step of joining Steve with a rock band named Teasing Zen (see the Music Archives page) to challenge the theory that the noise, lights  and the crowds might be in her blood.

As a literature major and a writer, aside from holding down the bottom end, Irene brings the gift of lyric to many of One Moment's soundscapes, providing an immediate and  visual sense of truly being there to some of OM's more signature songs.

Jeff Beck showed an interest in banging on things at an early age. It started out with pots & pans, tables, couch cushions, percussion instruments & ultimately real drums! Along with Symphonic, Marching & Jazz band in school, Jeff found a love of sitting down & jamming with others. Out of school he joined various bands, a Rush cover band named 'Broons Bane', an adventurous jazz/rock/blues outfit named Fairly Honest Jon and the Truth (see the Music Archives page), then finally joining One Moment in 2008. Jeff and Steve had worked together 20 years prior where they produced artwork for yellow page ads.  Ironically, in all of those years, neither had heard the other play music.  Before they had even heard each other, on an inspired hunch, Steve offered Jeff a position at the OM drum throne and Jeff accepted - this without even having met the band and with a high-profile corporate gig three weeks away.  That's been a fortuitous addition, as Jeff's background in pop rock, progressive rock and jazz, with his sense of finesse on the kit adds a unique touch of sophistication to the OM sound.

Jeff's musical tastes range from Maiden to Metheny and all that is implied inbetween.  Suffice to say that Jeff likes to hit things with sticks.  He has been hitting things for a very long time.  Many of them cannot stand to be hit any more.  Do you understand?
